Karl Falken was born into a very accomplished creative family: his parents are both Ivy League educated. His father was an accomplished physicist and his mother was an English teacher and later English Department Administrator in public school. Karl’s siblings include a research scientist and a dermatologist who are also gifted in music and language. His early life was rich in exposure to good music, literature, history and higher education. As a teenager, Karl heard the gospel of Jesus Christ and gave his heart and life to the Lord for His purposes. After graduating high school, he completed a Bachelors of Science at Juniata College and a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His professional career has spanned over thirty years at world-class companies as a design engineer, process engineer, project manager, quality and safety consultant, and current works as a cost analyst.
He started writing short stories in primary school and developed steadily from there. “Peregrine” stared during his college years as a series of short stories to a girlfriend and later developed further as bedtime stories for his children. When the theme had developed enough, he wrote the book in its current form while living in Sopot, Poland. The book was published by Publish America on 2003. Also while living in Poland, Karl recognized a need for quality, positive and edifying children books in the local book market. So he arranged a contract with world-class children’s author, Joy Berry, to translate her books into languages of the CIS countries for marketing there. Unfortunately, economic circumstances at the time did not support publication beyond the first edition.
While working on several other books in his spare time, Karl published newsletters for his neighborhood association. Several years after joining the Civil Air Patrol, he became the Public Affairs Officer and Public Information Officer for his squadron. In that capacity he wrote many articles and some training materials and plans. More recently he was appointed to various media related positions in the several civic organizations he participates in. In these capacities, Karl has published a variety of articles in local, state and national level publications and received a variety of awards and recognition for his writing and volunteer service.
The author also remains active in his local church and hosts a weekly fellowship in his home. Karl is an active and regular participant in a Bible study and prayer group. He is a graduate of numerous specialty training schools ranging from emergency services to evangelism.
His hobbies include playing and composing music for keyboard and guitar, drawing and painting, gardening, hiking & camping, amateur radio, horseback riding, archery, riflery, dancing and historical reenacting.
